Sony’s new console might have flown out of the window in terms of sales but the bugs are still there. The console has a lot of bugs that need to be addressed.
The rest mode crashing bug is one such bug that needs to be fixed. If you own a PS5, you might have seen it happen if you have ever left your console in the rest mode to download a game or two.
So, today we bring you this article in order to solve this issue on your PS5 console. Let’s get started.
What is the rest mode crashing issue?
PlayStation’s rest mode is a feature that will suspend your current session while keeping the console on. This feature will ensure that key features like downloading and updating can be done without using too much resources and power.
Some players are experiencing the issue where there are constantly crashing and critical errors while attempting to use the rest mode. The console can even get bricked (firmware gets broken) because of this.
Reasons for the Rest Mode Crashing issue
The main reason for the rest mode crashing issue is the fact that the PS5’s firmware is rushed. This means that the programmers have messed up the firmware and this can only be completely fixed once Sony releases the proper update files.
So, you can’t do anything about it? Well, you can. But most fixes lead to other issues like game saves getting automatically deleted or your console straight up stops loading downloaded games. But yeah, you can definitely work around the issue.
Fixes for the Rest Mode Crashing Issue
Fix 1: Don’t put the console on Rest Mode
Precaution is better than cure. To prevent the console from ever going to the rest mode, you can follow the following steps:
- Go to the Settings menu from the Home Screen.
- Now, visit the System Settings and choose power savings.
- You can see the time constraint for rest mode. Here, you can select the ‘Don’t Put in Rest Mode’ option.
- When you are done, reboot your console and this will probably fix the issue.
Fix 2: Rebuild the Database
Sometimes, the rest mode crash is so severe that you can’t even open your console. In such a condition, you need to rebuild the database. Rebuilding the database is quite easy.
Just boot up the PS5 in the safe mode and then select the option to rebuild the database. While this fix is pretty easy, this can delete your saved games so, you need to back up your data before doing it.
Fix 3: Update the console
Update your PS5 as soon as a new update comes out. This will fix a lot of issues that can possibly happen in the system. You can manually search for the update file inside the system but most of the time, an update file is automatically installed in the system.
If you don’t want to disable rest mode, just turn off the console! That’s the only way to prevent this issue. While the rest mode is technically there to help the users download games using the low power of the console, the firmware bug has made it a bit of a hassle.
The only real fix is to wait for a good update file. Aside from that, you can also rebuild the database and choose to prevent the error altogether. Anyway, you can always rebuild the database, if your PS5 stops working because of a rest mode crash.
