We know that a TV is the best option for a PS5. But we also know that some games in a PS5 support 120 fps and TVs generally gt capped at 60 fps. So, what should be done in such situation? Well, we can just use a monitor that is present in our homes. Easy decision. But what if you don’t have a monitor? How do you search in the market and buy one? Well, let us find out!
The main advantage that a gaming monitor has over a TV is the number of features. Most monitors these days are 4K panels and they have 120 Hz of refresh rate. This means they can support 120 fps. In addition, the monitors are also capable of HDR, and they are great for streaming content. These are just some of the many advantages!
Also, if you have an existing TV or a monitor with a resolution of 1080p, it won’t cut it for a PS5. The whole point of a PS5 is to be able to game in 4K. So, you would need a 4K screen for it. Therefore, we suggest you get a new monitor for your PS5 if you don’t have one yet!
But how do you choose the best monitor for PS5? Don’t worry, we got you covered!
Buying Guide for PS5 monitors
Here are some of the things to consider before buying a monitor for your PS5:
There is much confusion about the resolution support that the PS5 has. It is quite a simple math though.
The PS5 has support for 1080p screen but it is meant for 4K gaming. You can use a 1440p monitor with a PS5, but it doesn’t support the resolution. This is not like the Xbox consoles.
If you are looking to play games at 120 Hz, you can get a 1080p monitor. This is because the PS5 is not able to push 4K resolution and 120 fps at the same in 90% games. So, a 4K resolution would only give you 30-60 FPS on the console.
There is also the subject of pricem 4K monitors are super expensive. But we recommend them if you want good visuals in single player games like Final Fantasy 7 Remake and Spider-Man: Miles Morales.
The PS5 has support for 120 FPS as well. You can use a 60 Hz monitor with it too. As we mentioned, Most of the PS5 games are capped at 60 FPS.
In fact, True 4K seldom capped to 30 FPS in most games. You get that checkerboard 4K at 60 FPS. There are a few FPS that run at 120 FPS, but the resolution is sacrificed in these games.
You can also use 144 Hz monitors with a PS5 to play games like Fortnite and Rocket League. Do not go over 144Hz though, we don’t recommend it. As most of the times, you won’t be even using this refresh rate.
If you are just playing some single-player games, it is better to just get a monitor with refresh rate of 60 Hz and resolution of 4K. We recommend 4K over 1080p and 1440p simply because it will be future proof.
The PS5 has an HDMI 2.1 Port but you don’t need this HDMI technology for it. The console does support HDMI 1.4 and 2.0.
So, this means you can interface any generic monitor with it and it will still very much work. But if you want to play 4K games at higher refresh rate, you will be needing HDMI 2.1.

There are some areas where cost has been cut though. For instance, the G7 only offers HDR 400. This is good but that’s the issue, it’s only good. It is not great as the Display HDR 1000 or anything. This does make this unit quite affordable though. This is a monitor that doesn’t sacrifice quality.
