Top 10 Robot Masters

As most of you know, I am a huge Mega Man fan. I have been one since 1987 and yes, that make me old…so stuff it. Anyway, with Mega Man’s 25th anniversary coming up, I figured I would make a list detailing who I think are the Top 10 Robot Masters are. So, without further delay….start reading.

#10 – Tengu Man (Mega Man 8, Mega Man & Bass)
Tengu Man kicks off the top 10. Making his appearance in Mega Man 8, Tengu Man fights like an overconfident and brash teenager. Possessing two different weapons(Tornado Hold and Kamaitachi), Tengu Man is quite the force to be reckoned with, arrogant or not.

#9 – Shade Man (Mega Man 7)
Shade Man was built to look like a vampire, even going so far as to suck the oil out of other robots. He originally was an attraction robot from the haunted house of an amusement park, but was stolen and modified for combat by Dr. Wily. He possesses the Noise Crush ability, which shoots damaging sound waves and can be magnified if bounced off of a wall. Ironically enough, Shade Man longs to be a singer…strange. FUN FACT: If you hold the “B” button down when selecting Shade Man, his intro and stage music changes to the stage music from Capcom’s other hit game, Ghosts N’ Goblins!

#8 – Quick Man (Mega Man 2)
Quick Man is one of the fastest Robot Master in all the classic series. Designed after Elec Man’s schematics, Quick Man’s body was made out of a lighter material, which allows him to haul major ass. However due to this, he is susceptible to more damage. Utilizing his Quick Boomerang, Quick Man can easily take down opponents before they even know what hits them…unless they are using Time Stopper.

#7 – Sheep Man (Mega Man 10)
Sheep Man makes the list due to his unique design, as well as his ability to manipulate electricity(Thunder Wool)due to his wool. Originally a sheep herding robot, he left that job to work in the static resistance test division of a circuit board manufacturer after one day noticing static build-up on his wool. But, being one that easily gets bored, it seems he was thinking about changing jobs again…hm…sounds like someone I know. Lol!

#6 – Astro Man (Mega Man 8, Mega Man & Bass)
Astro Man is kind of a wild card. Not quite evil, but not quite good either. Astro Man was originally built to work on a planetarium, but Dr. Wily modified him for combat, and he uses his abilities to confuse his opponents. Despite his great powers, Astro Man is modest and shy. He’s easily startled, and thus not very reliable in battle; and more of a wuss. However, his weapon Astro Crush is probably one of the most powerful abilities in the game; easily OHKOing Yadokargo(Crab-like boss at the beginning of Mega Man VIII) with or without his shell up.

#5 – Heat Man (Mega Man 2)
Heat Man was based off of Fire Man’s design, but much more powerful. His body is highly resistant to heat and fire, and has the shape of a Zippo lighter, the lid sometimes shutting down unintentionally, usually when he laughs too hard. Heat Man gets into the Final 5 not because of him, but because of his stage and how fucking hard it can be…if you’re a noob. Lol! Heat Man’s weapon, Atomic Fire, was the first chargeable ability in the Mega Man series, allowing for a OHKO on Wood Man if timed correctly.

#4 – Yamato Man (Mega Man 6)
Yamato Man is a Robot Master modeled after a samurai warrior, and one of my favorite Robot Masters in the series. Although his armor appears to be heavy, it was made thin and as light as possible to improve his mobility, but reducing his defense. He has the Japanese spirit(Yamato-damashii), and is quite honorable. Yamato Man’s weapon is the Yamato Spear, which he uses to throw spear tips at enemies. However, he has a short stock of spear tips, and has to pick them up after every use.

#3 – Pharaoh Man (Mega Man 4)
Pharaoh Man is a Robot Master designed as a pharaoh that resembles Tutankhamun(King Tut for all you History haters). He was originally created by Dr. Cossack to explore pyramids, but was modified for battle by Dr. Wily. His main weapon is the Pharaoh Shot, a thermal sphere that can be charged-up and fired for greater damage. Due to the fact that he was designed with upgraded vision for exploring in the darkness of pyramids, he is highly vulnerable to bright lights, which is why Bright Man’s ability, Flash Stopper, hurts the hell out of him.

#2 – Shadow Man (Mega Man 3)
Shadow Man is a stealthy and powerful ninja-themed Robot Master. What makes Shadow Man’s origins unique is that he was originally an unknown, deactivated robot discovered by Dr. Wily, who remodeled and reprogrammed him. Aside from the upgrades Wily gave him and being a master of Ninjitsu, Shadow Man can summon a giant frog robot to ride on or small frogs to check areas for him (a reference to Jiraiya, a rouge ninja in Japanese folklore, so settle down Narutards). Shadow Man’s main weapon is the Shadow Blade, a large shuriken coated with a deadly liquid that can be thrown in 5 different directions and it returns to it’s user.

#1 – Metal Man (Mega Man 2)
Yeah, bitches! The ORIGINAL Ninja Bot! Metal Man is probably one of the most bad-ass Robot Masters in the series, partly due to the fact that his ability, Metal Blade, is incredibly powerful and versatile and is able to be fired in 8 directions. Of course, one of Metal Man’s most infamous design flaws is his extreme weakness to his own weapon; usually taking him out in 1 to 2 hits. The cool thing about fighting Metal Man is it takes place on a conveyor belt that he can switch directions at any time. Not too mention, the guy can jump WAY higher than you and still hurl his Metal Blades whilst falling! Beat THAT, suckas!

Anyway, I’m glad you all enjoyed this list. In actuality, I enjoyed writing it out and needless to say, it was very difficult to settle on just 10 Robot Masters seeing as how I am a huge fan of the series and I love all the Robot Masters equally. Stay tuned in the coming days for Koku Gamer’s own Crowbar Martinez as he counts down the Top 10 Mavericks!

Until next episode…
