The Age of Decadence

The Age of Decadence is a turn based roleplaying game from Iron Tower Studios that is currently on Steam Greenlight and was released on October 14th, 2015 it is heavily based on RPG elements like rolling for moves that you would with a traditional table top roleplaying game.

I had a difficult time with Character creation on completely understanding the point system and what my advantages and disadvantages would be it was like the Fallout 1 & 2 creation but more complicated and i felt there were too many options to choose from. aod-character charcreation

Graphic wise i feel that there could be room for improvement this visuals are very lackluster and can be hard to look at, it didn’t look up to speed with graphics with today’s standards it looked like it came from a game that would of come out in the early 2000’s  the character models i think suffer most from it the environment isn’t too bad but still doesn’t look the greatest as it could be.bazaar_zpsb98d0fcb

Gameplay wise i encountered visual bugs while in the item menu with merchants or even looting from bodies where my screen would flash rapidly when i was on the quantity selection screen that kind of made it hard to complete the process there as it strained my eyes to look at it.

another gameplay element i thought was struggling for me was combat… combat I felt the difficulty curve was too high and especially for new players to this genre or even type of game. the first battle i thought even was really hard if you choose to fight it i barely got away from it with 1 hp left. With the second approach i avoided the first room combat and came across two foes with a different encounter that i decided to take on, now i made myself very proficient with hammers, every time i would go to hit an enemy it would miss every single time no matter what i had done to hit the guy and it seemed every time he swung at me he landed a hit on me, another point that i thought that was very unforgiving with the combat was when i would hit the wrong button on my mouse i would accidently hit the move key but instead of moving my character would sit like a lump on a log and all of a sudden my enemy has an attack of opportunity on me and stabs me another 6 times. I restarted this fight 3 or 4 times before I got to the point that I couldn’t play the game any more i was frustrated and not having a good time.

Back to another flaw that turned me away was with my first attempt when i made it through the fight in the beginning, I got through all the steps with the innkeeper, I was able to explore on my own he had told me to see a certain person but nowhere did it tell me where to go so i wandered around the town and almost got jumped in a house from a merchant deceiving me and pretty much got the hell out of there before I had to fight again since I didn’t want to go through that mess again. So I wander around the town for like an hour it seems trying to find where I am supposed to go and I run into the military camp and they are very evident on not letting you go through there both story wise and physically it would teleport you away to outside the camp at a certain place. so I wander around town for another 20 mins before I just give up because I can’t for the life of me figure out what to do.

The Age of Decadence I feel has a lot of potential, if it fixes the bugs and balances the combat more to give you more of a chance and not just throw the pits of hell at you in the beginning, and if they polish the game more graphically it could do really well story wise they did good there I was enjoying hearing the lore but the gameplay had a lot to work on I feel. I am going to have to give The Age of Decadence a 5 out of 10.
