Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City Preview

Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City is being co-developed by Slant Six Games and Capcom for the PC, Xbox 360 and PS3 and is scheduled for release some time in “Winter” according to Capcom. It was estimated to be released in Fall 2011 but Capcom states it is “definitely locked in for winter.” Since “Winter” can mean any time between December and March, Capcom and Six Slant still have time to finish and polish the game.

Slant Six is the developer behind the SOCOM: Confrontation game, so we can expect a third-person shooter styled like SOCOM, but with zombies. The game takes place during the same time-frame as Resident Evil 2 and 3 and involves you taking on the role of an officer of the Umbrella Security Service tracking down Leon S Kennedy and other good guys.

There are six playable characters in the game, Vector, Spectre, Beltway, Four Eyes, Lupo and Bertha, and each have their own unique abilities;

Vector (real name unknown) is the team’s recon expert and is equipped with a cloaking ability,

Beltway (real name Hector Hivers) is proficient in the use of explosives,

Bertha (real name Michaela Schneider) is the team’s medic,

Spectre (real name Vladimir Bodrovski) is the team’s surveillance class and sharpshooter,

Four Eyes (real name Christine Yamata) is the scientist of the group with the ability to program the bio-organic weapons (BOWs)

Lupo (real name Karena Lesproux) who is an Assault class/Team Leader

Campaign Mode is going to be both single player and up to 4 player co-op. Along with the single-player mode, the game will also offer more four-player co-op gameplay, which pits the USS against the US Special Operations task force. During Co-op Play if someone is bitten and they run out of time after becoming infected, they will lose control of their character and begin attacking their still living teammates until they are killed old style, allowing them to respawn. The most exciting news for me is that Operation Raccoon City will also now allow players to run and shoot at the same time, which is a feature that was never used in any of the previous Resident Evil titles! Keep checking back with us for more exclusive previews for this upcoming, awesome game!
