COD: Modern Warfare 3 July DLC Review

The Season of Content continues with the latest installment of multiplayer content. Three maps were made available to the Elite Premium Subscribers, one of which is a freebie to the entire gaming community.


Terminal from MW2 was the free installment to the gaming community that was made available globally on the 18th of July. There are a few changes to the aesthetics of the map, but overall it is just as we remember it. The bookstore has gotten a makeover and is now an Electronics Boutique. Some of the old glitch spots that we love to hate have been reworked and the walls are more “bullet friendly” but other than the minor adjustments to the mechanics of the map everything else is pretty much the same from spawn points to the objective game play locations. It is nice to see it as a free addition to the gaming community. I for one am very delighted this fan favorite back in rotation, Bravo!


Decommissioned is a nautical bone yard. This map is a fairly large map that is littered with choke points, small sections of broken ship hulls which are ripe with vantage points for both short and medium ranged combat tactics. My only complaint so far with this map is the spawn mechanics could use a little attention. I found myself on multiple occasions either spawning right behind or in front of another player. I give this map 7.5 out of 10

Offshore takes place on an oil rig, and has the same boundaries that you would find on Overwatch, one misstep and you find yourself sinking to a watery grave. This map simulates the same verticality that you will find on Piazza with multiple sight lines for both medium and long range combat engagements. Do not get to comfortable if you are a sniper as the vantage point that you leaves you unprotected and fairly visible to the rest of the players. I give this map 8 out of 10.


The spec ops mission that accompanied this DLC installment is Vertigo. You start your mission on top of the Oasis hotel using a Star Streak laser guided RPG to engage waves of helicopters. Try to make your RPG rounds as effectively as possible before you reach the bottom of the hotel where you will find a cache of reloads available. After dispatching the air assault you will have waves of enemies to deal with and if that was not enough there is also an occasional Juggernaut added into the mix just to keep you on your toes. To keep you pulse pounding you will have to parachute off the building to continue your combat engagement on the street to finish out the spec ops mission is another onslaught of helicopters earning you the flyswatter achievement and an Apex Achievement. I really enjoyed this spec ops mission and give it 9 out of 10.

Overall this is a nice sized DLC installment which was also paired with a patch to address some of the game mechanics issues that accompanied the last few DLC installments. Here is a list of what was addressed:

•Support for Elite drops 16, 17, and 18
•Liberation Map – Added death trigger for rock glitch.
•Black Box – Patched up wall glitch
•Javelin (Weapon) – Reduce Javelin explosion radius by 20%.
•Sit-Rep Pro – You can now see portable radars without being in their range.
•Fix for player accuracy being miscalculated.
•Fix for minute long kill cam duration with Reaper.
•Fix for both team’s receiving losses at the end of a round based game type. (Demolition, CTF, Search & Destroy)
